Please only put items in our bins that comply with the list of things we can recycle through this Terracycle scheme (see list below).

Twice a year we accumulate enough credit with Terracycle to allow us do make a donation to a local charity. We are a CIC so can’t keep the money. So far donations have included contributions to; Buxton Methodist Church Raise the Roof Appeal, Buxton Junior School, Zink and Serpentine Community Garden.

Please do not leave bags etc on or beside our bins, it could be a trip hazard and result in us not being able to have the bins in the locations.

Crisp Snacks

Crisps, popcorn, nuts & pretzels packets, crisp substitutes e.g. lentil curls, tortillas, quavers, prawn crackers. Multi-pack bags of above.

No: meat snacking products, dried fruit packets or nutrient powder packets.

Where: Soft plastics bins (Morrison’s or Waitrose).

Sweet and savoury biscuits, crackers, cake, cereal bars, rice cakes, Twiglets, mini cheddars, Ryvita types.

No: confectionery wrappers.

Where: Transition Buxton hard to recycle bins.

Toothbrushes, electric toothbrush heads and covers, flossing sticks and interdental brushes, floss containers.

No: non-plastic or battery operated toothbrushes, dental floss, cardboard packaging.

Where: Transition Buxton hard to recycle bins. Please take toothpaste tubes to Boots if you are able to.

Crisp packets; confectionery wrappers; fruit, vegetable and salad bags; multipack film wrap; baby, pet food and microwaveable food pouches; carrier bags; clothing bags; bubble wrap; dishwasher tablet packaging; toilet roll and kitchen roll wrapping.

No: compostable or biodegradable bags.

Where: soft plastic bin at Morrisons or Waitrose.

Pringles tubes (with steel base).

No: other brands or lids.

Where: Transition Buxton hard to recycle bins.

All brands of ballpoint, gel, fountain and eraser pens and mechanical pencils. Correction instruments, highlighters, felt tips, whiteboard and permanent markers.

Due to changes with the Terracycle scheme that our ‘Hard to Recycle’ bins are part of, we can no longer accept these. Please note these changes and recycle these things via other routes.

Any brand of flexible plastic cheese packaging, nets and pouches.

No: plastic cheese tubes and trays, squeezy cheese tubes.

Where: Transition Buxton hard to recycle bins.

Any brand of disposable gloves made from  nitrile, vinyl and latex purchased for use at home.

No: non-disposable gloves. No gloves which have been used with harsh chemical or unhygienic substances.

Where: Transition Buxton hard to recycle bins.

All brands of plastic bread bags, Warburtons wax wrap.

No: combined paper and film window bags.

Where: Transition Buxton hard to recycle bins.

All brands of flexible packaging for coffee bags, loose leaf tea packs and bulk bags of tea bags.

No: coffee bean and ground coffee pouches.

Where: Transition Buxton hard to recycle bins.

All makes of PC printer cartridges.
