Education Outreach

Wild Weeks 2022
Thanks largely to the dedication of a few volunteers Transition Buxton has been working closely with local schools and young people for a good few years now.

This inspirational work takes many forms, some of which is detailed below. We are proud of the difference this work makes and would actively welcome contact from anyone who might help us continue to do so.

Buxton Wild Weeks

Since 2020 Buxton Wild Weeks have become part of the curriculum in local schools. Focussing on nature and wildlife, youngsters explore their school grounds and local environment to improve habitats for wildlife, learn about biodiversity and enjoy connecting with nature. We feel that giving children an understanding of the natural world and potentially a passion for looking after it is a hugely important part of our work.

Buxton Schools COP Conferences

In November 2022 and again in 2023 over 100 school Students from schools in Buxton attended our Together for our Planet Conference (scheduled to take place with the COP young peoples day) with lively debate and decisions focusing on climate issues. Their ideas to address these were collected and will be assembled into a summary document to action. We know that some of the young people have then returned to their schools and taken actions for sustainability like replacing drinks vending machines with water fountains to reduce the plastic bottles damaging our environment. Plans are now progressing well for the 2024 conference in partnership with Buxton Rotary.
