Repair Cafe Update – 09/11/20
134 items had their useful lives extended, saving approx 2544kg of CO2 in 5 months (20 hours in total) of Buxton Repair Cafes between September 2019 and March 2020. Our team of Volunteer Repairers are keen to resume the regular sessions as soon as we can do so safely.
Buxton Repair Café takes place on the 4th Saturday of the month, so we have our eye on 23rd January 2021 and will make and announce a decision at the start of the year. The sessions are usually 10am – 2pm at the Methodist Church on the Market Place.
Our lovely Repairers will tackle most things that you can easily carry in including; garments & soft furnishings, small appliances and electronics, toys, ceramics, jewelry, wooden items, and more. Whilst working to fix your item the Repairer will explain the process so that you might gain some knowledge and skills to undertake repairs yourself in future. We ask for donations from our satisfied ‘customers’ to cover our costs.
We are keen to see the life of ‘stuff’ extended wherever possible to reduce waste and the need for new. Many of these skills have been lost and need recaptured. We also support the Right to Repair movement which aims for legislation for products to be designed to be repairable. Designed in obsolescence is not acceptable practice in an environmental and climate crisis.
