What does Transition Buxton do? The short answer is that we do everything and anything that we can that will strengthen our ability to adapt and live sustainably. The Transition Towns movement is based on taking positive action, not just to reduce our carbon footprint, but also to provide resilience to external events and build a better community through sharing resources, skills, and friendship.
Currently we are:
- Working towards Plastic Free Community Status
- Running monthly Repair Cafes
- Expanding and maintaining our dispersed community orchard
- Offering free Home Energy Audits
- Working with young people through the Climate Pathfinders Youth Forum
- Providing inspirational learning opportunities with local children
- Sharing custodianship of three foot tall ‘Billy the Buxton Bee’ beautifully decorated by local artist Pam Smart
- Providing the Buxton Cup to reduce waste and litter
- Organising our annual plant swop stall on the market
- Exploring Community Energy opportunities
- Working towards a Library of Things
- Hosting a free lending library of topical books & DVDs
- Publishing a bi-monthly e-newsletter
- Working collaboratively with others through We Are Buxton forum
- Aiming for Big Buxton Conversation 3 in 2022
- Working with other local groups through High Peak Green Network
- Open to new projects, ideas and Members
Over the years our commitment to a positive future has see Transition Buxton do all sorts of things including:
- establishing the Serpentine Community Farm (now a standalone Charity with big plans)
